What is cricket betting?
Cricket betting means placing a wager on something that might happen in a cricket match or series. For example: which team will win, how many runs will be scored, or who will take the most wickets. The idea is the same as other sports betting – you risk money on an outcome; if you are right you may win, if wrong you lose your stake.
We explain this so you can understand how it works. We do not offer or promote real-money betting.
Common types of cricket bets
- Match winner: Betting on which team wins the match (or if it’s a draw/tie).
- Top batsman/bowler: Who will score the most runs or take the most wickets in a match or series.
- Over/under runs: Whether the total runs will be over or under a number set by the bookmaker.
- Toss: Who wins the toss (often for fun or small stakes where allowed).
- Series winner: Who wins the Test series, ODI series, or tournament.
Understanding these helps you read news and comparisons. It does not mean we encourage you to bet.
How odds are used
Bookmakers set odds for each possible outcome. Odds reflect both the chance of something happening and the potential payout. Lower odds often mean the outcome is seen as more likely; higher odds mean less likely but higher payout if it happens. We do not display or offer odds on this site.
Things to remember
- Betting on cricket is still gambling. You can lose money.
- Laws differ by state in India. Many forms of cricket betting are illegal where you live.
- Never bet more than you can afford to lose. Do not chase losses.
- Fixing and cheating exist in sport. Betting on fixed events is illegal and wrong.
Is it legal in India?
It depends on your state. Some states allow certain types of betting; others ban most forms. Online cricket betting is a grey area in many places. Check your state’s laws and, if needed, take legal advice. See Is Online Betting Legal in India?.
Responsible betting
If you choose to bet where it is legal, set a budget and stick to it. Never bet when upset or under the influence. If betting becomes a problem, seek help. See our Responsible Gambling page.
